“Our forests and wildlands cover over 94 million hectares (nearly a million square kilometres) with approximately 2,000 wildfires occurring each year. Thanks to the efforts of the BC Wildfire Service the majority of these fires are contained within 24 hours.”
The BC Wildfire Service utilizes a variety of Initial Attack and Unit Crews. Smokejumpers, also known as ‘Parattack crews’ are based out of Fort St. John & Mackenzie. They are deployed primarily throughout the northern portions of British Columbia. All Parattack crews are Type 1 firefighters, who are employees of the BC Wildfire Service. Their ability to reconfigure into truck attack and unit crews makes them a versatile asset to respond to the challenging and varying landscapes of all wildfires.
